Theater Seating Is Important In A Home
Theater
Theater Seating is what makes a good theater stand out from
a bad one. In many cases the theater seating makes all the
difference between a great experience and a sore back.
Comfortable seating makes a movie experience so much more
enjoyable.
Bad seating with obstructed views can wreck even an
Academy Award-winning performance for the viewer. No one wants
to sit on a rock-hard chair or uncomfortable couch for a two to
four hour stint.
As it is in the big theater, so goes it
for home theaters as well. When it comes to setting the tone
for a great home theater, seating is a very important
consideration. Everything from the location of the seating to
the type of seats chosen is important for the most optimal
movie watching experience. If you're not comfortable or you
can't see or hear, the movie-watching experience will be
cheapened.
Considering the fact many people create home theaters as an
escape from the every day world, comfort and ambiance are key.
A hard-backed seat that makes you wish you were anywhere else
won't help you achieve the goal.
When choosing seating for your home theater,
there are a few things to keep in mind:
- Placement - The best viewing for most
televisions - regular, big screen other otherwise - follows
a simple formula. The distance from the viewer to the
screen needs to be about three times the size of the
screen. Use this guide for choosing placement for both the
screen and the seats and even seating sizes.
- Comfort - A good seat that helps the
viewer stay alert is a necessity, but an uncomfortable one
is not.
- Couches versus chairs - This is really
a matter of preference, but be certain they are comfortable
and of the right size to be at least the minimum distance
from the screen.
- Appearance - If your home theater has
a theme, go with it. The seating is almost as big of deal
for the appearance of the room as the screen itself. Think
of a good movie theater. The seats make a statement as
well. They help create the atmosphere of the overall
viewing room there and they should in your home theater as
well.
It may not seem like a big deal, but seating really is. If
seating is poorly arranged, poorly placed and uncomfortable,
your home theater will fall short of being the refuge you'd
hoped for. All the money in the world spent on electronic
components won't remedy a bad view or an unbearably
uncomfortable chair.
