Home Theater Surround Sound Systems Can Make A
Difference
One important component in home theater speaker systems many might overlook is
the sound system. Taking an ordinary movie and turning it into extraordinary, the sounds directors include in the
cuts are meant to draw viewers in by making them use more than their eyes.
A good home sound system can replicate the movie-theater sound effects quite well on a small scale.
The inclusion of a surround sound system, however is a personal one. It shouldn't be taken lightly for the creation
of a home theater that's right for you.
Here are a few things to consider:
- Is sound important to you. If you love to hear bullets whizzing by your ears as you watch a war movie or if
the booming voice of a dramatic actor portrayed in just the right pitch makes the flick for you, then surround
sound is a must. If you cringe at loud noises and don't particularly like the audible "jump factor" in horror
movies, maybe you want to steer clear.
- Price - If you have decided to pursue a good surround sound system, setting a budget for the purchase is a
good place to start. Be realistic here since a great system can cost a lot. Set an honest yet reasonable amount
for the purchase limit and remember good is often more than sufficient.
- Compare the available options within your budget. Read reviews from consumer groups and even past
customers. Find out which sound systems offer great clarity and hold up well, too.
- Listen - If possible, check out the sound quality of different systems.
- Once you've checked out a few different possibilities within your price range, pick the correct system for
you. This means the one you like. Then make sure it's installed correctly. Make sure speaker placement is right
for sound optimization. Surround sound doesn't work so well if the speakers are all lined up in a row without
rhyme or reason.
- Safety - Take care to hide wires for the speakers under carpets or run them professionally through the
walls. There's nothing worse than tripping on a speaker wire and yanking it out to mess up the system, plus
exposed wires are eyesores and they can be dangerous.
A good sound system can add a lot to a home theater, but make sure what you find is the right system for you. A
little care on the front end of the purchase can produce great results.
